Your income & group plan

A quick, honest note. This tool gives a rough, educational estimate to help you think things through. It is not insurance, financial, tax, or legal advice, and it is not a quote or an offer of coverage. Everything you type stays in your browser on your device — nothing is saved, sent, or seen by anyone. Your real number depends on details a calculator cannot capture, so treat this as a starting point for a proper conversation.

Common questions

Why won't my group LTD replace my income?

Group plans usually replace about 60% of income up to a monthly cap. For higher earners the cap bites first, so the benefit can work out to far less than 60% of what you actually earn. A top-up policy fills that gap.

Are disability benefits taxable?

Generally, if your employer pays the premium the benefit is taxable; if you pay it yourself with after-tax dollars, the benefit is usually tax-free. That difference matters when you compare what a plan really replaces.

What is an 'own-occupation' definition and why does it matter?

It defines when you count as disabled. A strong own-occupation or regular-occupation definition pays if you cannot do your specific job, not just any job, which matters a lot for business owners and specialists.
